Delvin Breaux’s Background Giving Credibility Both In NFL & CFL

Delvin Lionel Breaux (born October 25, 1989) is a former professional football cornerback from New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended McDonogh 35 High School, where he suffered a severe neck injury in 2006, fracturing his C4, C5, and C6 vertebrae during a kickoff return. Remarkably, he recovered without neurological damage. Despite being offered a scholarship to play for the LSU Tigers, he was never medically cleared to participate and eventually left the university.

Professional Career:

Louisiana Bayou Vipers (2012): Breaux began his professional journey with the Louisiana Bayou Vipers in the Gridiron Developmental Football League (GDFL), earning All-Star recognition in 2012.

New Orleans VooDoo (2013): He signed with the New Orleans VooDoo of the Arena Football League (AFL) on November 5, 2012, and was placed on Other League Exempt by the VooDoo on May 22, 2013.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2013–2014): Breaux joined the Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats on May 24, 2013. Over two seasons, he distinguished himself and was named a CFL All-Star in 2014.

New Orleans Saints (2015–2017): On January 24, 2015, Breaux signed with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints. In his debut game on September 13, he recovered a fumble against the Arizona Cardinals. He recorded his first career interception during a game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Breaux concluded his inaugural NFL season with 45 tackles and 3 interceptions, earning the Saints’ Ed Block Courage Award and being voted the team’s defensive MVP by fans. His subsequent seasons were marred by injuries, including multiple fibula fractures, leading to limited playtime and eventual placement on injured reserve.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2018–2020): Breaux returned to the CFL, re-signing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on June 18, 2018. His contract made him the highest-paid defensive back in the league, earning just under $200,000 before incentives. He continued to perform at a high level, contributing significantly to the team’s defense.

BC Lions (2022): On February 9, 2022, Breaux signed with the BC Lions. He started nine games before a season-ending injury. In November 2022, he announced his retirement from professional football.

Delvin Breaux’s career is a testament to resilience and determination, overcoming significant physical setbacks to achieve professional success in both the CFL and NFL. Now that Delvin has left both the NFL & CFL, he’s now focused on the power of the plant to the people. He started The Delvin Breaux Sr. Foundation which is currently servicing the greater New Orleans area through sports, leadership and development.

The Delvin Breaux Sr. Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in New Orleans, is dedicated to promoting mental health awareness and community advocacy. Founded by former NFL cornerback Delvin Breaux Sr., the foundation operates under the guiding principle that “Mental Health is Mental Wealth.”

Mission and Vision

The foundation’s mission is to support youth affected by trauma, abuse, and neglect by hosting Mental Health BootCamps in partnership with Dillard University’s Center for Racial Justice. These programs emphasize the importance of mental well-being alongside physical health, reflecting Breaux’s belief that success in life and sports is predominantly mental.

The vision extends to connecting with communities in New Orleans and Louisiana, providing resources that help young individuals avoid self-harm and harm to others. The foundation aims to create job programs, award scholarships, and offer initiatives such as financial literacy, mentorship with football training, nutrition guidance, mental health advising, and more.
